Hotel Accommodations and Hotel Registration

The Carolina Inn offers historic charm combined with modern amenities. An AAA Four Diamond Award Winner and a Historic Landmark Hotel listed with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, it is conveniently located on the doorsteps of the University of North Carolina, in the heart of downtown Chapel Hill, and only 15 minutes from the Raleigh Durham International Airport (RDU). The Carolina Inn offers world-class service, elegantly appointed guest accommodations, and excellent dining. Formal parlors, sitting areas and a cozy sunroom, as well as the stunning outdoor gardens and courtyards, are conducive to small group gatherings and networking opportunities. And it is only a few steps away from the vibrant downtown Franklin Street area which offers a large variety of restaurants and elegant shops.

The Inn was built in 1924 by John Sprunt Hill, a UNC graduate who, in 1935, gave the Inn to the University to serve as "a cheerful inn for visitors, a town hall for the state, and a home for returning sons and daughters of alma mater." Still owned by UNC, profits generated from the operation of the inn are given back the university to fund the library system.

In addition to having a rich cultural history, The Carolina Inn is architecturally significant, blending elements of antebellum Southern plantation houses with Georgian and neoclassical features often found in the Northeast. The original front of the building was modeled after the Potomac River front of Mt. Vernon. An extensive collection of antiques, along with a few objects original to the Inn in 1924, complements the casually elegant décor.

Guest rooms feature working desks, data ports, two telephone lines, voice mail, individual climate control, complimentary USA Today delivered to the guest rooms daily (M-F), pay-per-view movies, Nintendo, electronic locks, and express check-in and check-out service, and complimentary coffee, (non-smoking guest rooms available). The Inn also offers complimentary High Speed Wireless (Wi-Fi) Internet access in all guestrooms and public areas, and valet parking (daily 6:00am-midnight).

Other offerings include full business center & Internet Café and exercise room with cardiovascular equipment plus Complimentary Access to Area Health Clubs.

The Carolina Inn is now a smoke free facility.
