| Monday, October 16, 2006 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Design and Analysis of Constraint Systems This four-hour class provides in-depth study of constraint systems in practical precision designs. We begin with the basic ideas of exact-constraint (or kinematic) design and discus real constraint devices along with their imperfect behavior. These include small-area contacts found in kinematic couplings, flexures of various types and configurations, and more conventional machine elements. The design side of the class is taught largely using figures and examples. The analysis side of the class requires some understanding of engineering-level mathematics. The booklet contains the presentation slides with additional text that usually goes deeper than time allows during the lecture. This booklet should serve as a useful reference for years to come.
