Membrane Scientist

Join the preeminent start-up company conducting research and development on next-generation reverse osmosis membranes that leverage the benefits of nanotechnology for water purification.

Responsibilities: Hand-cast polymer and nanocomposite (mixed-matrix) membranes. Perform advanced membrane characterization and desalination performance testing. Optimize membrane polymer chemistry and nanoparticle characteristics.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess an M.S. or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering, or Chemistry and have knowledge of several of the following areas.

  • Experience coating or casting polymer films, membranes or mixed-matrix materials
  • Experience performing and interpreting AFM, SEM, TEM, XRD, EDX, XPS, FTIR, DSC, contact angle, and zeta potential
  • Experience synthesizing monomers and polymers and characterization with NMR, GC/MS, FTIR
  • Adhesion and interactions between particles and surfaces in liquids, dispersions, and colloidal systems
  • Mechanistic understanding of interfacial polymerization
  • Experience using micro- and meso-scale characterization to explain macroscopic behavior
  • Experience with statistical analysis of data
  • Ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary start-up company environment
