Title   The Measurement of Dimensional Metrology
Category   Dimensional Metrology
Primary author

Content   Dimensional metrology drives precision engineering. It is well known that if you cannot measure something you cannot make (or improve) it. Rarely measured is the size, applications and trends in the use of dimensional metrology itself. Dimensional metrology spans many technologies and markets. Understanding the uses of dimensional metrology reveals opportunities for both instrumentation and precision engineering itself. This presentation defines dimensional metrology, measures the worldwide market size by technology, reported measurand, and market application and then considers the implications of historical trends. This information can give context to many of the week's presentations and also offer insight into future opportunities.
